Google to Launch edition platform for eBook

An executive with Google says the company will launch a new platform next year that lets readers buy books that can be accessed from anywhere, be ita personal computer, cell phone or other platform.

``It will be a browser-based access,'' he said. ``The way the e-book market will evolve is by accessing the book from anywhere, from an access point of view and also from a geographical point of view.''

Asus' E-Reader Mystery: Low-Cost, Dual Screen Device

Asus is reportedly working on its own entry into the e-book reader market: a dual-screened reader that will open like an actual book. Asus reportedly intends to target the price of $165, significantly undercutting the kings of the market, Amazon and Sony. The Sunday Times of London quotes a UK Asus executive as saying the company, manufacturer of what could arguably be called the first netbook computer, would introduce a device before the end of the year that skirts the line between netbook and book reader. Dual screens that open like and actual book would give the user a more "normal" page-turning experience, but one of the screens could also be used as a Web browser or virtual keyboard. A built-in camera and microphone opens up a world of cheap Skype, Internet phone calls, and color screens means the ability to peruse graphics-rich pages like one would find in newspapers like USA Today -- as well as in school textbooks.

Opera 10 launched today

Opera Software has launched 10th version of its browser today according to the Norwegian company's spokeswoman Falguni Bhuta. Opera claims that Opera 10 has better performance, a turbo mode for slow internet connections, support for a variety of web standards such as web fonts and improvements to the Opera Mail feature.

Opera has been available since many years and was then considered among the top three browsers (along with Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox). But then with the launch of Google's Chrome and increase in popularity of Apple's Safari, Opera has now slipped to the number five spot. It has not been able to win more customers from its rivals and has been surviving on loyal customers. Opera is also available on Mobile platform and has been successful in providing a good browser for low speed internet.

Opera has been known for innovative additions. In 2007, it has launched Speed Dial feature, which presents an array of Web site thumbnails when a person opens a new browser tab. Now you can find the same feature used by Chrome and Safari. Opera has to still implement the new Carakan JavaScript engine, which is used to run Web-based applications such as Google Docs. It is expected that this feature will soon be available with Opera 10 update.

Other browsers are also working furiously on better JavaScript performance in order to improve web applications quality.
